According to Anhui Monitoring Station of the National Cotton Market Monitoring System, with the end of the Spring Festival holiday, cotton mills in the main cotton producing areas along the river are increasing day by day after the festival. On the seventh day of the first month of this year, cotton mills began to resume production. It is expected that most enterprises will resume work before the Lantern Festival, and a few enterprises will resume work after the Lantern Festival.
It is understood that the Spring Festival holiday of cotton mills this year is generally longer than that of previous years. Only a few enterprises have 8 days off. Most enterprises have about 20 days off, with the longest being 40 days.
After the Spring Festival, the contract price of Zheng Mian's main force fluctuated significantly. In addition, there were few enterprises returning to work, so the overall performance of cotton procurement and cotton yarn sales was flat.
Ginning mill feedback that at present, the purchase and processing of seed cotton still need to be done after the Lantern Festival, and the 1228 level quotation of lint cotton remains at the pre festival level of 14500 yuan/ton, but there is no actual deal.
Most of the cotton yarn quotations of cotton mills maintain the pre festival level, and some enterprises have raised the quotations of a few varieties by 100-200 yuan/ton.
It is expected that after the 15th day of the first month, cotton yarn transactions will gradually increase after the weaving mills resume work in succession, and the price trend of lint and cotton yarn will gradually become clear with the downstream demand and futures price trend.
During the Spring Festival, the United States imposed an additional 10% tariff on China. The market sentiment was weak. In the first week after the festival, cotton prices were under great upward pressure.
Trump signed an executive order, and China's textile and clothing export market may be subject to a new round of suppression, which will curb cotton consumption, and the competition in the domestic demand market will further intensify. It still takes time for the implementation of domestic consumption promotion policies
In the new year, the national cotton notarization and inspection volume has reached 6.3907 million tons. The downstream textile enterprises have resumed work more frequently after the festival than at the beginning of the first month, but the new orders have not been centralized, and most of them are the production of orders before the festival.
At present, the focus of the domestic export market is gradually shifting to ASEAN, which partially makes up the gap in the European and American markets, but also makes the domestic foreign trade volume increasingly heavier, thus limiting the unit price to increase and depressing the cotton price.
It is expected that the cotton price will continue to be under pressure in 2024/25 when the domestic and foreign production will surge and the incremental demand will be weak.
